37,761 ComEd Customers Still Without Power In Will County

WILL COUNTY, IL — Several active power outages knocked out electricity to thousands of Commonwealth Edison customers in Will County Monday afternoon when a strong storm that threatened to turn into tornadoes ripped through the area.

As of 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, about 37,761 ComEd customers in the county do not have electricity, according to the company's outage map. There are at least 671 power outages across the county, affecting 15 percent of all customers in the county, according to the company.

Tornado warnings were issued for much of the Chicago area, with wind gusts of 80 mph, hail the size of a quarter and downed trees and power lines were reported as the severe weather passed through northern Illinois.

ComEd wrote in a Facebook post that crews are "working diligently to restore power as quickly and safely as possible."

"Customers in the same neighborhood may be restored before some neighbors, due to different transformers providing power to different sections of the street or the power line directly feeding electricity to your property being damaged," the post said.

In a news release, the company said it has more than 800 employees working around the clock to help with the situation. Additionally, more than 1,100 mutual assistance workers will be arriving from other states to assist in the restoration efforts.
