These Custom License Plates Were Rejected In Illinois In 2025
SYBAU, BDASMOM and ICUP are among the vanity license plate ideas that didn't make the cut with the Illinois Secretary of State.

Personalized vanity license plates are a great way for drivers to express themselves while out on the road, but each year many would-be plates don't make the cut in Illinois. Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias recently unveiled some of the 550 or so vanity plate ideas that were rejected by his office, including BDASMOM, ICUP and SYBAU.
In a video shared on the Illinois Secretary of State YouTube page, Giannoulias joked that the rejected ideas had "landed on this year's naughty list."
He added, "As always, we appreciate the creativity of Illinoisans who want customized license plates, but they must meet certain standards of good taste and decency."

Giannoulias said the Secretary of State's office got more than 55,000 applications for personalized license plates in 2025.
These included "BBL." Giannoulias said, "This apparently means Brazilian butt lift, which had to be explained to me.

Other plate ideas that failed to meet the aforementioned "standards of good taste and decency" included the following. Giannoulias's comments are included in the quotes:
- BLUBALN: "I don't think they're referring to DePaul's basketball program."
- BRICKED: "This apparently has nothing to do with construction. I would recommend just Googling that one."
- TYPESHT: "I'm on that Secretary of State type 'you know what.' Apparently also a Gen Z thing."
- IBPOOPN: "Ok. That one's pretty funny.:
- ICUP: "This one, I guess you just say the letters. Apparently a 10-year-old requested this one."
- PRIUSSY: "If this is how you refer to your Prius, there's a show on TLC for you."
- SNDNUDZ: "This apparently stands for 'send nudes.' No thanks."
- BDASMOM: "This is short for bada** mom. I keep telling my wife to stop requesting this plate."
- SYBAU
"There are lots more that we had to deny that are far raunchier and inappropriate that I cannot read on camera," Giannoulias said.
He encouraged drivers to keep being creative, but to use a little discretion when they do so.
