Avoid Holiday Package Theft With Tips From Bolingbrook PD

Follow Bolingbrook PD's theft prevention tips this holiday season.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — As more packages, with possibly expensive holiday gifts, are delivered each holiday season, law enforcement agencies across the country see an uptick in reported package thefts.

According to a news release from the department, Bolingbrook Police Chief Mike Rompa and the Crime Prevention Unit are asking residents to help combat these "Grinch-like activities" by following the theft prevention tips:

  • Track and schedule deliveries to reduce the time packages are exposed.
  • Utilize a delivery lock box or provide a delivery area that is not visible to the roadway.
  • Take advantage of delivery services like Amazon Key – In-Garage Delivery.
  • Have valuable items delivered to FedEx and UPS stores or authorized Amazon pickup locations.
  • Work with trusted neighbors to receive your packages when you are not home.
  • Report suspicious activity to your local police department in real-time.
