Bolingbrook Says No To Appointing Clerk: Unofficial Primary Results
Voters decided whether the village clerk should remain an elected position or be approved by the Board after an appointment from the mayor.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Voters took to the polls Tuesday night to decide the village clerk role in Bolingbrook would remain an elected position, according to unofficial results.
Bolingbrook residents voted on a referendum that asked whether the clerk position should remain an elected one or be an appointed role. The results are binding.
Martha "Marti" Barton currently serves as Bolingbrook village clerk, a position she has held since 2020.

If residents would have decided to switch courses, going forward, the clerk would have been appointed by the mayor, with the advice and consent of the Village Board of Trustees, following the end of Barton's current term.
Polls in Illinois closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

- Yes: 2,096 votes
- No: 4,227 votes
