Bolingbrook Man Arrested for Role in Drug Operation

A Bolingbrook man was arrested Aug. 21 for his role in what police are describing as a large-scale, highly sophisticated marijuana operation in Naperville and parts of Bolingbrook.
Mingdi Lu, 30, of 3327 S. Bell Rd., was arrested Aug. 21 and charged with felony production or possession of cannabis, a Class 3 felony that carries with it a sentence of two to five years in prison and a $150,000 fine.
Two others were arrested for their part in the scheme: Chang H. Chen, 40, of Chicago, and Jinzu Shi, 51, of Chicago.

According to a Naperville Police Department press release, Naperville Police responded to the 2500 block of Whitehall Lane regarding a report of suspicious activity. After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, police found more than 1,500 marijuana plants and additional information on locations in Bolingbrook that were possibly linked to the operation.
The police then contacted the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency for help. Search warrants were obtained for the addresses in Bolingbrook, which yielded an additional 6,000 more cannabis plants.

The case remains under investigation by the DEA. The Bolingbrook locations that may have been linked to the operation were not readily identified.
Lu's arraignment date is pending in the Will County Circuit Court.
