Independence Elementary School students took time out of their day Tuesday to write letters to Bolingbrook-area senior citizens.

It was “Send A Little You to Someone New” day, one of five themed days for Valley View School District’s “Pay It Forward 365” week.

The goal of the student letter writing campaign was to be friendly and find a way to brighten the day of shut-ins at nursing homes such as Meadowbrook Manor. Some of the letters asked how the seniors are doing. Others told of favorite subjects, a favorite sport, interesting colors, how school is going or favorite foods.
