Carol Stigger of Bolingbrook received the 2012 Jacqueline Jackson Creative Writing Award for Non Fiction on July 14, in Springfield.
This annual award is presented by the University of Illinois/Springfield Alumni Writers Collective. Professor Jacqueline Jackson presided over the ceremony that was held in Springfield’s Oak Ridge Cemetery at a tomb that resembles a Greek temple.
Stigger pledged to split infinitives and to never let the facts get in the way of a good story.
“Professor Jackson was my first writing teacher in graduate school,” Stigger said. “She gave me the courage to follow my dream and the wisdom to ignore the naysayers.”
Writing has been Stigger’s livelihood and passion for three decades. Specializing in Third World poverty, microfinance, and travel, she has reported from more than 30 countries. You can visit her blog at http://stiggerink.wordpress.com
