Five More Bolingbrook High School Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

Three volleyball players and two baseball players signed letters of intent Wednesday to continue their athletic careers in college.

Five Bolingbrook High School student-athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday to continue their athletic careers in college next year.

Volleyball players Ciara Hill (University of Cincinnati,) Alexa Piekarski (Monmouth College,) and Marisa Markus (St. Thomas University) joined baseball players Steve Waldrop (Morehead State University) and Mario Samuel (Heartland Community College) in inking their signatures on the bottom line.

Hill, a four-year starter for the Lady Raiders, registered 349 kills, 220 digs, 30 solo blocks and 28 block assists as an outside hitter. The two-time MVP was also selected to play in the SportstownChicago.com Illinois High School Girls Volleyball All-Star game.

Piekarski, recently voted the 2012-13 Outstanding Female Athlete at BHS, was second on the team in assists with 172 and third in aces with 36.

Markus led the Lady Raiders squad with 493 assists, was second in aces (46), solo blocks (29) and block assists (37), and was third in both points scored (244.5) and digs (160).

Waldrop, a four-year varsity starting pitcher, has a career record of 12-6 and a 2.79 earned run average heading into this season. He also plays the outfield.

Samuel pitches and plays the outfield as well. As a junior, he hit .278 and hit two home runs while posting a 3-4 mark on the mound. 

Andrea Bercot is the girls varsity volleyball coach, while Chris Malinoski is the head varsity baseball coach at BHS.
