Students at Tibbott Elementary School celebrated Veterans Day in a variety of ways Thursday including visits from veterans in two assemblies.

Courtesy of Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, LMC Director Erin Preder presented the school with two American flags that were flown over the U.S. Capitol Building. One of the flags will be raised daily on the Tibbott flag pole by Tibbott Patrols, while the other will remain in the library.

Eight veterans attended the two assemblies with retired Air Force veteran Chuck Groner telling students about his experiences during the Vietnam War. The veterans also visited classrooms.

As part of the assemblies, students watched a slide show with photos of  family members of Tibbott students and staff who served, or are serving now, in the military. They also waved miniature flags donated to the school by the VFW Post in Bolingbrook.

In addition, several classes held a live Skype session with a member of the military currently on active duty.
