Free June Program to Provide Hands-On Science Learning for Girls

Current fourth and fifth grade girls in have until the end of the month to sign up for a unique summertime opportunity to have fun and make new friends while learning about astronomy and engineering through a hands-on science program.

Known as The Science Spectacular, the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana program will take place in Chicago Monday, June 11, and Tuesday, June 12, with bus transportation provided from both in Romeoville and in . King and Independence will then both host the program Wednesday, June 13, and Thursday, June 14, with more exciting science activities.

Girls must sign up for all four days of the program.

The specific schedule calls for buses to leave Irene King and Independence at 8:30 a.m. June 11 and June 12, and return from the Girl Scout Program Center (Journey World) around 2:30 p.m. The June 13 and 14 Independence program runs from 8:30 to 11 a.m., while the King program those days runs from noon to 2:30 p.m.

The program is limited to the first 300 girls who sign up. The program is for girls who have not participated in Girl Scouts.

Girl Scouts will provide chaperones but parents are also welcome to volunteer as chaperones.

Signup forms are available at every VVSD elementary school. Questions may be directed to principals at each VVSD elementary school.
