Jane Addams Raises $760 for Superstorm Sandy Victims
Students, parents and staff at Jane Addams Middle School in Bolingbrook raised the money through fundraisers and personal donations.
Students at Jane Addams Middle School in Bolingbrook raised $539.75, while parents and staff donated $229.99 for a total of $759.74 for victims of Sandy, the catastrophic storm that left a lot of people in dire need of help.
According to staff members Nicole Mellen and Joy Hayes, who headed up the effort, it was important for students to take a step back from their own life and reach out to help others.
Mellen and Hayes got the word out to organizations in the building, primarily Student Ambassadors, Builder's Club, and National Junior Honor Society with each club offering to help in some capacity. With permission from food services, they set up collection boxes at the breakfast and lunch registers. In addition, they had collection boxes stationed throughout the building. Student Council and Student Ambassador Members went to each classroom with collection boxes during morning announcements over the three days of the fundraiser.

They also held a hat day. Students and staff who made a $1 donation were able to wear their hats all day.
They had some generous donations from other organizations in their building as well. Their low incidence classroom donated half of their earnings from a “coffee shop” and IMAN club donated too.
