Jane Addams Wrestler Finishes First At State Meet

The team itself finished 18th overall at the IESA state meet.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Jane Addams Middle School wrestling team made a hugely successful showing, including one first-place finish, at the IESA Class AA state wrestling meet on March 10.

Wrestling Coach Dave Pavey told Patch that the school sent six wrestlers to the IESA state meet, and eighth grader Jonathan Washington took home an individual state championship (275 pounds) for Jane Addams.

Eighth grader Raymond George (215 pounds) took fifth place, and sixth grader Julian Paniagua-Ruiz (85 pounds), eighth grader Mosiah Crenshaw (135 pounds), eighth grader Logan Sogavo (145 pounds) and eighth grader Geno Vargas (167 pounds) also competed at the state meet, Pavey said.

The team, which included 35 wrestlers this season, finished 18th out of 73 schools, which is a best finish for the program, Pavey said.

The coaches are Art Tancl, Dave Pavey, Ed Hasselberg and Carlton Wince.
