BOLINGBROOK, IL - Police arrested a 24-year-old Justice man named Robert English in Bolingbrook shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday evening, on a very long list of charges. Bolingbrook PD Public Information Officer, Lieutenant Anthony Columbus, said that English was suspected to be selling narcotics in the area out of a stolen vehicle. His arrest occurred as he and an unnamed 16-year-old passenger exited a red Lexus in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the 300 block of Woodcreek Drive.

"English exited the car along with a 16-year-old juvenile passenger. They both began to walk to the entrance to the apartment building and were carrying a small backpack," Columbus said via email. "Officers made contact with the subjects at the entrance."

Columbus further reported that after being stopped by police, Columbus attempted to push past the officers, and then produced a loaded Ruger .380 handgun from his waistband. At the same time, English's 16-year-old associate ran away with the backpack.

Police disarmed English and arrested him without further incident. The juvenile was also eventually caught after throwing away the backpack. When it was recovered, Columbus said police found cannabis, cocaine and pills of an unknown medication.

Both English and the teenager with the backpack now face long lists of charges related to drug possession with intent to deliver, trespassing in a vehicle, and resisting arrest. According to Will County court records, English was specifically accused of 17 separate charges, ten of which are felonies.

The most serious of the charges English faces is 'armed habitual criminal;' the charge can be leveled against any person who receives, sells, possesses, or transfers any firearm after having been convicted twice or more of another violent felony and/or a felony related to the Illinois Controlled Substances Act. For this charge alone, English could face up to 30 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

English was checked in to the Will County Adult Detention Facility in Joliet shortly before 1 a.m. on Friday morning, March 6. He had his first court appearance at the Will County Courthouse that same day. His teenage associate was taken to River Valley Juvenile Detention Facility, also in Joliet.

Will County inmate records indicate English is currently being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility on $10,000 bail.

All charges against English are merely accusations, and he is considered innocent until proven guilty.
