LCSRA Racks Up 22 Gold Medals at State Games

Lily Cache Special Recreation Association athletes had a strong showing at the Special Olympics State Summer Games last weekend, racking up 22 gold medals, 12 silvers and 14 bronze medals.

LCSRA team members competed alongside more than 4,000 athletes competing in six different sports along with 1,600 coaches, 2,500 volunteers and 3,300 family members.

It was the first time LCSRA had athletes represented in each sport. LCSRA Therapeutic Supervisor and Special Olympics Athletic Director said both the team and individual results were amazing.

"We couldn't be more proud," Izban said. "Ayanna Foster, competing in her first year with us, was outstanding. Her Rhythmic Gymnastics coaches, Trista and Kalina Matt, really did a great job."

Foster racked up five gold medals, one of many LCSRA athletes that earned multiple awards. On the team sports side, the LCSRA soccer squad earned a first-place finish and gold medal.

LCSRA is a cooperative extension of the Bolingbrook and Plainfield Park Districts that strives to offer recreational programs which build self-esteem and provide a lifetime of growth.
