Library Hosts Free Virtual Genealogy Webinars During Pandemic
From identifying clues in family photographs to using Pinterest for projects, genealogy enthusiasts can learn a lot from these programs.
BOLINGBROOK, IL — In order to deal with the loneliness brought on by the stay-at-home order, the Fountaindale Public Library District in Bolingbrook has continued to host its weekly Genealogy Club meetings, keeping patrons connected with researchers and family history enthusiasts.
After two successful months of virtual programs, the library announced a list of upcoming webinars on Tuesday. The club will host free weekly Zoom webinars that are free and open to the public, no library card required.
Hidden In Plain Sight: Identifying Clues In Family Photographs With Sarah Potter

In this seminar, you’ll learn the basics of photo identification and photo dating to solve your family history mysteries. Sarah Potter will focus on a brief history of photography, photograph types and how to use the clues in your photographs to determine when your photos were taken and who are in them.
Hunting For Henry: A Case Study Using Collaterals With Teresa Steinkamp McMillin

Henry Steren was a German immigrant who lived in Quincy, Illinois. The United States records that were created about him indicate only that he was from the Province of Hanover in Germany. This lecture will detail how his town of origin and parents were identified, despite the lack of records naming him.

Join the library for a special book talk and murder mystery discussion with Matthew Galik. On the morning of April 14, 1926, the Inland Steel payroll delivery was hijacked in Indiana Harbor. Later that afternoon, Will County Deputy Sheriff and Mokena resident Walter Fisher died in a hail of gunfire just outside Orland Park. That night, the bullet-riddled body of Santo Calabrese turned up on a Broadview Road. The exact sequence of events remains uncertain, but a jury was able to trace enough of the day’s violent trajectory to send Daniel Hesly on the path to Alcatraz.
