Bolingbrook Man Dead After Gunshot to Head

A Bolingbrook man is dead after being shot in the head on the corner of Emerson Circle and Flagstaff Drive last night.

Mikyal L. Green., 20, of the 200 block of Bryant Way was pronounced dead at 10:36 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Bolingbrook police officers responded to Green's shooting at 7:54 p.m., Wednesday and found Green in the side yard of 149 Flagstaff Drive, a short distance away from his house.

Green had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital before he was transferred via helicopter to Loyola University Hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Ray Rojek, who lives on the property where Green was found, said he saw a group of youngsters walking down the street while he was turning on his front porch light and didn't think anything of it.

As he was closing his front door and heading to his back porch, where he and his wife were going to have an after-dinner coffee, Rojek heard two loud popping noises.

"It sounded like firecrackers and we didn't really think too much of it," Rojek said. "We sat down on the back porch, and a minute later, a lady said, 'Do you know there is somebody laying on the side of your yard?' I ran inside and got a flashlight, came out here and went next to the kid ... and he had some things going on. He had some brains hanging out of his head and was bleeding all over the place. We called 911 and they responded."

Rojek said it's not the first time his neighborhood, which is in close proximity to Oak View Elementary School, has seen crime or violence.

Bolingbrook police were seen canvasing the area Thursday morning, interviewing residents and searching for evidence. A blood stain remained on the sidewalk in the area where Green was shot.

The shooting remains under investigation by Bolingbrook police, who have still not identified any suspects.
