McDonald's Closing Concept Chain, Including This IL Location

BOLINGBROOK, IL — McDonald's on Friday said it plans to close its CosMc's chain less than two years after its launch. This includes the Bolingbrook location, which opened in 2023.

In a statement, McDonald's said the company will start closing stand-alone CosMc’s locations in June and will also discontinue the CosMc’s app.

The "beverage-centric" concept from McDonald's first opened in December 2023 in Bolingbrook. The Bolingbrook location was the first to open in the United States and remains the only location in Illinois.

There are seven CosMc's locations, with the other six in Texas.

The "small-format, beverage-led concept" featured specialty lemonades and teas, blended beverages, cold coffee and some food items, including some McDonald's classics.

"What started as a belief that McDonald’s had the right to win in the fast-growing beverage space quickly came to life as a multi-location, small format, beverage-focused concept," the company said on Friday. "It allowed us to test new, bold flavors and different technologies and processes, without impacting the existing McDonald’s experience for customers and crew."

The fast food chain said it plans to add some CosMc's beverages to some McDonald’s menus as part of the upcoming U.S. beverage test.
