BOLINGBROOK, IL — Bolingbrookers, the park district is hoping you're ready to party like it's 1996. In honor of its 50th anniversary in 2020, which couldn't be celebrated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the park district is hosting a "Space Jam"-themed event Oct. 2.

The BRAC Jam will take place at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex, 200 Lindsey Lane — hence the event's name. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. that Saturday, guests will be able to tour the renovated facility and have a chance to win '90s-themed gift baskets, movie tickets, and yet-to-be-announced surprises.

"We were bummed that we weren’t able to celebrate our 50th Anniversary last year in-style with a big event like we wanted to," the event page says on the park district's website. "But that isn’t going to stop us from celebrating a year later!"

The BRAC opened in 1996, which is the year the original "Space Jam," starring Michael Jordan, was released. With the release of the highly anticipated sequel "Space Jam: A New Legacy" last week, organizers said "it made sense for us" to center the event around the films.

BRAC Jam will not only be celebrating the park district and BRAC's anniversaries, but also the completion of the facility's renovation, which was the result of a 2018 referendum ask.

To close out the celebrations, at 6 p.m. that Saturday, the original "Space Jam" will be screened.

More details about the event will be released on the park district's website as the date nears.
