Police: Romeoville Man Arrested After Escaping Custody of Bolingbrook Officers

A Romeoville man who escaped police custody and had outstanding warrants in two states was arrested this morning by an off-duty Bolingbrook officer and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, according to reports.

Police said Porfirio Madrid, 34, of Romeoville, faces felony charges of escaping from a peace officer, being a fugitive of the law and having a fake form of identification.

According to police, officers responded to the 100 block of East Frontage Road on Sunday for an intoxicated individual passed out in the snow. Police said they arrested the man, identified as Madrid, and took him to for treatment with an officer standing by to take him into custody for the warrant.

But upon his release from the hospital, Madrid asked to make a phone call for bond money, according to reports. Police said the officer escorted him outside so he could get cell service and Madrid ran off on foot. Police checked the area but were unable to find Madrid, reports said.

This morning, an off-duty Bolingbrook officer saw Madrid walking near the intersection of Schmidt Road and Lily Cache Lane at about 7 a.m. The officer arrested Madrid and took him to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Madrid was already wanted on three outstanding warrants—one in DuPage County for failure to appear for damage to property and removing vehicle parts charges; and two in Wisconsin for failure to appear for strangulation, assault, intimidate a victim and battery charges, and for jumping bail.
