Skeletal Remains Found In Bolingbrook ID'd As Missing Minnesota Man

The remains were found on Dec. 14 by a citizen who was searching the wooded area for deer antlers, the coroner's office said.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Skeletal remains found near Hidden Lakes preserve in Bolingbrook have been identified as a Minnesota man who was reported missing in July 2024, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

The remains were found on Dec. 14 by a citizen who was searching the wooded area for deer antlers, the coroner's office said. The skeletal remains have now been identified as David McCord, 36, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bolingbrook Police told Patch the man was a childhood resident of Bolingbrook.

Bolingbrook Police scoured the area and found personal items which contained an ID for McCord, the coroner's office said. A computer search performed by Bolingbrook Police indicated that McCord was listed as a missing person.

Will County Coroners personnel responded to the scene and took custody of the remains. Dr. Cris Hughes, a Forensic Anthropologist at the University of Illinois, identified the skeletal remains as being human, according to the coroner's office.

The coroner's office said that the Bolingbrook Police, with the assistance of Minneapolis Police investigators, obtained a DNA sample from McCord’s mother and turned it over to the Will County Coroner's Office, who partnered with Independent Forensics of Lombard and confirmed that the skeletal remains were David McCord.

A human skull found in the vicinity in October 2024 is undergoing additional testing to determine whether it is related to this case, the coroner's office said.

This investigation remains open as additional testing is being conducted by the Will County Coroner’s Office, police said.
