Suspect In Rockford Woman's Death Found Dead In Bolingbrook Hotel

Police said the man was found Monday morning with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound before he could be charged with the crime.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A man who was found dead in a Bolingbrook hotel room has been identified as a suspect in the shooting death of a 36-year-old Rockford woman, police said.

Charles Cowart, 40, was a suspect in the death of Lashawnda Bowser, who died from gunshot wounds Sunday in Rockford, according to the Winnebago County Coroner's Office.

After an investigation, police told Patch they were authorized to charge Cowart with first-degree murder. However, his body was found Monday morning at a Bolingbrook hotel before an arrest could be made.
