While gaining control of the fire, crews were notified of a dog trapped inside the home. Fire crews were able to rescue the dog unharmed at 10:51 a.m.
A few minutes later, firefighters were told about the child who was not accounted for and was "possibly in the bedroom," he said.
"Immediate action was taken and the child was located and rescued by fire crews inside a bedroom," Columbus said. "The child was evacuated and fortunately, unharmed. The child was transported to an area hospital for observation as a precaution. It is unknown if the family knew the child was inside when they evacuated."
The house sustained approximately $80,000 in damages and after the fire was extinguished at 11:06 a.m., the residence was deemed uninhabitable. Red Cross responded to assist the family with housing needs.
Columbus said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
