Valley View to Host Town Hall on Student Safety Thursday
Valley View School District 365U officials will discuss new procedures and general safety concerns for the district in Romeoville.

After issuing new safety procedures for the district Monday and a revised version on Tuesday, Valley View School District 365U officials will host a town hall meeting on student safety Thursday.
The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Lukancic Middle School, 725 Normantown Road in Romeoville.

Superintendent James Mitchem will be on hand, and free child care and Spanish translators will be provided. It's an opportunity for residents and parents to "express your thoughts about a long-range solution to making our schools as possible" in an informal setting, according to a district e-mail.
New safety measures include locking classroom and school doors, prohibiting homemade food from being brought in and requiring each school to hold an "active shooter" drill this week.

Random "magnetic wand" searches will take place on a regular basis at the two high schools and five middle schools. Bolingbrook and Romeoville police have also agreed to step up their patrols in school neighborhoods for the foreseeable future.
The district had previously barred any food to be brought into classrooms and placed a moratorium on any volunteers or visitors in school. A day later, officials said visitors and volunteers were again allowed and revised its food policy to only bar homemade food.
