'Who Am I' Youth Event Returns To Bolingbrook For Third Year

The youth empowerment event will include workshops, and a live Q&A with retired professional football players Shafer Suggs and Reggie Smith.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The third annual youth empowerment event, "Who Am I," will return to Bolingbrook on May 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bolingbrook Recreation and Aquatic Complex, 200 Lindsey Lane.

According to a news release, the event is open to youth ages 12–17, and pre-registration is required.

The event is supported in part by Vocational Strategy Inc. (VSI), a leader in career development programming for youth and young adults that was developed by two higher ed educators. VSI will bring its "Building Optimal Student Success" (BOSS) Program to the event, offering an interactive teamwork session that helps teens strengthen real-world skills like collaboration, communication, and leadership, event organizers said.

“We’re not just talking to the attendees — we’re engaging them in ways that connect with their daily lives and future goals,” said Dr. Maribeth Hearn, CEO of Vocational Strategy, Inc. “Our BOSS framework is about empowerment, practical tools, and helping students see the leader within.”

Featured guests will also include retired professional football players Shafer Suggs and Reggie Smith, who will share their personal journeys and answer questions in a live Q&A.

There will also be workshops about mental health, bullying, online safety and innovative tools like mind mapping, presented by John Diggs.

According to event organizers, all participants will receive a T-shirt, drawstring bag, and more, all included with their $25 registration.

"We’re deeply grateful for the leadership of Reggie Smith and Shafer Suggs, as well as the support of the Mayor whose vision and commitment made this event possible." Dr. Steven Wettergren, Co-Founder of Vocational Strategy, Inc., said in a release.
