Will County Board Member Traynere Cited After Hitting Child On Bike: Reports

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Will County Board Member and DuPage Township Administrator Jacqueline Traynere was cited for failure to yield at a crosswalk after an incident involving her car and a pedestrian, according to Bolingbrook Police. Traynere's vehicle stuck a child on a bicycle, according to reports.

Police responded at 8:15 a.m. on March 11 to the intersection of Lily Cache and Lindsey lanes, which is near Jane Addams Middle School, for a report of the accident.

Police said both Traynere and the child refused medical attention, and Traynere was cited for failure to yield.

According to Edgar County Watchdogs, a police report stated that Traynere exited her vehicle to check on the child, and then drove off. She went to the Bolingbrook Police Department and reported the incident.

Patch has requested a copy of the police report.

Patch reached out to Traynere and spoke to her lawyer, Joe Giamanco, of Giamanco Law Partners.

Giamanco told Patch that the incident has been "taken dramatically out of context and is being used in a transparent attempt to score political points rather than for any legitimate purpose."

"One version I heard early on—from an elected official—was that the minor was 'run over' and that Ms. Traynere never stopped her vehicle; such statements are patently false and defamatory. As the matter is currently pending, we are limited in what we can say," Giamanco said. "However, Ms. Traynere contests the single citation she received for allegedly failing to yield to a pedestrian. We look forward to resolving this matter in a court of law—not in the court of public opinion."

Traynere serves as the DuPage Township Administrator, which is not an elected position. She also has served on the Will County Board, representing Bolingbrook, since 2008. She was elected the Democratic Leader for the Board in 2022.

Traynere previously ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Bolingbrook in 2017 and 2021.
