📰 News we're reading
• Bourbonnais tax rate set to decrease (shawlocal.com) — Bourbonnais homeowners can expect a slightly lower village tax rate on their 2025 bills, with the rate dropping from .4264 to an estimated .406. Thanks to rising property values, the village will collect more overall while keeping its portion of your tax bill roughly flat, and that share remains only about 5% of your total property taxes.

• Death threat towards TPUSA chapter at Illinois college sparks investigation, forces leaders to leave campus (foxnews.com) — Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais is working with the Bourbonnais Police Department after anonymous social media death threats targeted leaders of a Turning Point USA student group, prompting them to leave campus. Officials say there’s no broader threat to the campus community, but law enforcement and campus security are actively investigating to identify whoever sent the messages and maintain safety.

• Another Illinois Red Lobster Location Closes (patch.com) — Bourbonnais residents may remember that their Red Lobster was among several Illinois locations the chain closed in 2024, and now Bolingbrook’s restaurant has also shut its doors. Village officials there have already reduced liquor licenses accordingly, as the company continues restructuring after bankruptcy and earlier closures in Bourbonnais, Geneva, and Peoria.
