Cops Capture Man Wanted in Tragic July 4th Shooting of Chicago Boy

Rasheed Martin was taken into custody Wednesday in Wisconsin by police and U.S. marshals.

A suspect in the Fourth of July death of a 7-year-old boy shot while watching fireworks was arrested in Wisconsin on Wednesday afternoon. Rasheed Martin, 20, is in the Douglas County Jail and will be extradited to Chicago.

Sheriff’s deputies and police, backed up by U.S. marshals, took Martin into custody in Superior, WI, near the Wisconsin-Minnesota state line, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Amari Brown was shot in the chest in the dark of night in a drive-by shooting on Chicago’s South Side as he stood with his father watching Independence Day fireworks. Police said the bullets were intended for his dad, Antonio Brown, a ranking member of the Four Corner Hustlers street gang and a known drug dealer with 45 arrests and 12 convictions to his credit.

Little Amari was laid to rest on July 11, eulogized by Democratic Congressman Danny Davis and Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, both of whom decried the senselessness of yet another innocent child falling victim to the brutal violence on Chicago’s streets. His friends wore Teen-Age Mutant Ninja Turtle t-shirts in his honor.
