HT Winter Sports: Girls and Boys Basketball 2021-22

The Lady Tigers are back on the hardcourt for the FULL 2021-22 season after a COVID-19 sidetracked and shortened the '20 campaign. To date, the varsity team's record stands at 2 wins and 3 losses.

HT opened the season with two setbacks. The first was at home versus Juarez on November 16th, when the Lady Tigers fell by six to the visiting Eagles by a final count of 47 to 41.
The host Tigers featured Kamila Solis who had 15 points on the evening and returning guard Jalyssa Diaz who pitched in 12.
Two nights later, the team ran into a "buzz saw" at Lisle high, losing to the host Lions 56 to 19. HT was led by Anyssa Bentacourt with five points and Kamila Solis with four.

Returning home, the team hosted the fifth annual Turkey tourney named in memory of former Principal, Ms. Charlene Szumilas, who served as a head educational officer from 1996 to 2021 and in her "extra" time assisted the HT Athletic department, working many hours as the scorekeeper for both the girls and boys basketball programs.
In three days of action this year, the Lady Tigers won 2 of 3 games and finished in second place, dropping the title game to Lake View on the final night, by a final score of 31 to 27. Below is a summary of the tourney games (in order of play).
November 20th -- HT 35, Francis Parker 24:
HT 6 - 7 - 12 - 10 = 35
Parker 3 - 6 - 10 - 7 = 24
Leading HT in this contest versus Francis Parker was Jaylssa Dias who scored 15 points and teammate Kamila Solis who added 9.
In the first game of the night, Lake View 50, UIC Prep31.

November 22nd -- HT 53, UIC Prep 42.
The Tigers moved out to a solid lead by halftime but needed to regroup as UIC Prep staged a determined second-half surge closing to within 5 with only minutes to play, though HT held on for the win.
HT featured Anaya Davison who had 14 points on the night and Jalyssa Diaz who had six. UIC Prep was led by M. Scott who had a game-high 21 points and A. Johnson who added 11.
In the first game, Lake View 37, Francis Parker 22.

November 23rd -- Lake View 31, HT 27. title game.
The visiting Wildcats built an early lead that the host Tigers could never dissolve in a well-played title contest. Anaya Davison once again led the Tigers with 15 points on the evening while teammate Jalyssa Diaz pitched in six.
In the third-place contest, Francis Parker 41, UIC Prep 37.
