'Into Punk,' Not Golf, Moreno Will Sing Karaoke at Upcoming Fundraiser

The Wicker Park Punk Ball is almost upon us and one local alderman says he's preparing to take the stage. Want to know what tune he'll be belting? Read on for details.

A local politician says that although he's not into punk—the theme of an upcoming fundraiser—he is into karaoke.

Ald. Proco Joe Moreno (1st Ward) plans to take the stage at the Wicker Park Punk Ball on July 12, according to RedEye Chicago. The Facebook page for the event says money will go toward organizations that celebrate, "the freedom of artistic expression and community togetherness."

A percentage of the proceeds will help the city's 1st Ward First, which the event invite says is committed to better serving the community and supporting local candidates. Another 25 percent will benefit 826 Chicago and The Boring Store, a community organization that creates opportunities for school-aged students to enjoy reading and writing.

"Know Your Rights" by The Clash, "Straight Edge" by Minor Threat, "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys, and "Tourettes" by Nirvana are among songs Moreno is considering singing, RedEye says.

"Some aldermen are into golf. I'm into punk," Moreno told the publication.
