Walk to End Alzheimer's Fall Fashion Fundraiser
September 10, Local Author and Alzheimer's Advocate Partners with Four ENAZ Locations to Raise Funds in Husband's Honor
HIGHLAND PARK/NORTHFIELD/LAKE FOREST & BUCKTOWN, IL (September 10, 2022) — As the number of Americans living with Alzheimer’s is at an all time high with an estimated 6.5 million age 65 and older in 2022, many people have been forced and given the position of being a caregiver to their loved ones. Cheryl Levin-Folio, a Highland Park native and author, was wanting to offer guidance for those in similar circumstances as hers, being a caregiver to her late husband, when she wrote her book The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer's.
As an Alzheimer’s advocate, she will be partnering with her ENAZ ‘work family’ at the 4th Annual Fall Fashion + Fundraising event on Saturday, September 10th from 10AM-5PM at all four ENAZ locations in Highland Park, Northfield, Lake Forest and Bucktown. ENAZ will proudly donate 10% of all sales, with Team Levin-Folio matching another 10% to the North Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
“ENAZ was our favorite place to shop before Michael was afflicted with Alzheimer’s,” reflects Levin-Folio. “I recall after his diagnosis, he would always want to take me back to shop and pick out the same items for me, and the wonderful staff at ENAZ would graciously respect his wishes.”
The support shown by the staff had such a profound affect on Levin-Folio that, after Michael’s passing, she decided to work for the retail store and partner with them to create the Annual Fall Fashion + Fundraising Event.
“Cheryl has been a devoted ENAZ employee for many years and this foundation is so meaningful to her,” says Lena Lurie Blitstein, co-owner of ENAZ. “We are thrilled to be able to honor Michael’s memory and all those effected by Alzheimer’s at our Shop-for-a-Cause Fall Fashion + Fundraiser.”
The public is invited to shop the latest fall collections in-store or online at https://enaz.com to show their support. ENAZ will proudly donate 10% of all sales during the shopping event with Cheryl Levin-Folio matching another 10% to the North Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
In the four years ENAZ has partnered with Levin-Folio at this fundraising event they have raised over $70K. She hopes to raise a donation of $20K from the ENAZ 4th Annual Event for the Alzheimer’s Association with a goal of raising a total of $75K from Team Levin-Folio support by the end of 2022. MEET LEVIN-FOLIO AT TWO EVENTS:
Saturday, September 10th
Cheryl Levin-Folio will be on-site with her book at the ENAZ Highland Park location. A truly inspirational piece, The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer's (2015) was created and written from the perspective of an Alzheimer’s caretaker, and it could not be more relevant than now. Married later in life, just a short six months after saying their vows to each other in 2012, Michael was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at the young age of 55.
Levin-Folio’s work is an incredible instrument for those who take care of or know a loved one suffering with a life-threatening illness. Although published before Covid, this book provides creative ways to preserve the relationships and quality of life you share with the people that mean the most to you.
Most importantly, it is a truly down-to-earth reminder that continuing to cultivate beautiful memories is vital to keeping you grounded and happy during tough times. In her late husband Michael’s own words, “I may be a sick man but I am happy.”
The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer's can be purchased on Amazon with 100% of proceeds going to the Alzheimer Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Sunday, September 11th
Cheryl will also be speaking at the North Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Gallery Park in Glenview on Sunday, September 11th at 9:30AM. “It’s an honor to be able to share my journey with so many people who have had Alzheimer’s touch their lives,” says Levin-Folio. “It is so moving to see everyone represent their connection to the disease with a Promise Garden flower. I only dream of the day when I am there to see someone holding a white flower!”
“Volunteers like Cheryl help take us one step closer to our vision of a world without Alzheimer's disease," said Delia Jervier, Executive Director, Illinois chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
