A Buffalo Grove boy is advocating for more medical research into a disease that has disabled his older brother, the Daily Herald reports.
Alex Randell, 10, is pushing for research for Canavan disease, which his older brother Max, 15, was diagnosed with as an infant. Canavan disease is a rare neurological disorder that causes the brain’s white matter to degenerate over time. Alex and Ilyce Randell are now in Bethesda, Maryland speaking before scientists from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke among other national government organizations asking for more government funding for researching this disease, the newspaper reports.
