This Chicago Suburb Is The Richest Town In IL: Report

Stacker determined the wealthiest towns in each state using median household income.

KILDEER, IL — Illinois’ richest town is the northwest Chicago suburb of Kildeer, according to an analysis of nationwide data.

Content platform Stacker determined the wealthiest towns in each state using median household income from the most recent U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey Five-Year Data, per August 2024, noting the available statistics do not show median incomes above $250,000. Ties were broken via the percentage of residents earning over $200,000 per year.

“The ‘richest town’ can look quite different from state to state, with some being far wealthier than others,” according to Stacker. “For instance, the country’s millionaires and billionaires are concentrated in California, New York, Florida, and Texas, meaning that the lifestyle in Palm Beach is not akin to that of, say, Kildeer, Illinois.”

In Kildeer, the median household income is listed at $250,000, which is 232.7 percent higher than the national median, Stacker reported, adding that 67.7 percent of households in the town earn more than $200,000 and a mere 1.4 percent of families fall below the poverty line.

“Kildeer is within 30 miles of Chicago, offering residents the ability to work in and access the city while living in a peaceful, natural setting,” according to Stacker. “The town includes 2,625 acres of lakes, streams, and forests, with homes nestled in between. Officials have orchestrated the town's development since 1958, and all homes are custom-built.”
