Coronavirus: Buffalo Grove Suspends Fire Department 'Drive-bys'
Due to the continued threat of the coronavirus, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department is suspending drive-bys for special events.
BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Although it has received numerous requests to do so, the Buffalo Grove Fire Department has suspended voluntary "drive-bys" for birthdays and other special events as long as Gov. J.B. Pritzker's stay-at-home order in response to the coronavirus remains in effect according to a special bulletin from the village.
"The department looks forward to once again giving tours at the fire stations, attending block parties and interacting with residents," the bulletin read. "However, until COVID-19 in no longer a threat to everyone's health and safety, we ask for your understanding and compliance with the governor's 'Stay at Home' order."
Several other Chicago-area municipalities have offered this service, including Skokie and Northbrook. But because of the growing number of coronavirus cases in the village, Buffalo Grove is limiting personnel and equipment to essential travel only, according to the bulletin.
