Officers responded to the 150 block of Lake Boulevard after a resident saw the two victims, whose names have yet to be released, unresponsive near a vehicle with blood on the ground, police said.

Officers arrived to find both victims with multiple gunshot wounds. Buffalo Grove Police Chief Steven Casstevens said the man was 69 and his wife was 64. Their identities were not immediately released pending notification of next of kin.

Police described the shooter as a white man with gray hair, possibly in his 60s, wearing dark clothing, a dark jacket and dark baseball-style hat.

Casstevens said surveillance video from the parking garage showed the victims arriving in a vehicle around 8:15 p.m. After exiting the car, the couple had a "brief conversation" with their killer, who approached on foot as the garage door closed and shot the man and woman multiple times.

According to Casstevens, the shooter left the garage on foot through a side door.

During a Monday afternoon press conference, Casstevens said the surveillance video is high quality and "we are confident we will be able to identify him." Police believe the incident was specifically targeted.

Police were reportedly investigating the Cambridge on the Lake complex Monday morning and the fire department was using sonar in a nearby pond in an attempt to locate an object, according to ABC.

While authorities say they have "no reason to believe the offender will return to the area, due to the severity of the crime and the discomfort within the community," there will be increased police presence at the Cambridge on the Lake community in the wake of the murders.

Casstevens said he did not know when the last homicide was in Buffalo Grove, which was recently named one of the 10 safest cities in Illinois. In 2005, a father and daughter were killed by their house cleaner in a burglary gone wrong in the suburb. Prior to that, a woman was fatally stabbed in a Buffalo Grove business parking garage in 1996.
