Communities with a large segment of senior citizens or high median incomes tend to have the highest percentage mortgage-free homes, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.
According to the Crain's analysis, 13,483 homeowners, or 20.9 percent, own their home outright in Buffalo Grove. About 26 percent of homeowners in the Chicago area own their home mortage-free, the news source reports.
