Missing Teen's Body Found Near Railroad Tracks In Wheeling
After the body was found, police activity led to trains on Metra's NCS line being stopped in both directions Monday morning, Jan. 13.
WHEELING, IL — The Wheeling Police Department is investigating the death of a teenager whose body was found just after 7 a.m. Monday lying near railroad tracks at the Lake Cook Road/Canadian Northern overpass in Wheeling. According to a police department news release, an engineer aboard a passing train reported seeing a person who was possibly dead lying near one of the tracks. Officers arrived to the area and found the person who was then taken to Glenbrook Hospital and pronounced dead, according to police.
The body has been identified as a teen who police said left home Sunday evening, and was reported missing early Monday morning. Police said there is no indication of foul play in the teen's death.
Trains on Metra's North Central line were delayed for over an hour in both directions Monday morning due to the police activity, the Metra NCS Twitter page reported. The Buffalo Grove Police Department posted on Facebook reporting that Wheeling emergency services responded to a call impacting the North Central line, adding that the line wouldn't operate until emergency crews cleared the scene.
