5 Burr Ridge Nonprofits To Support This Holiday Season

BURR RIDGE, IL — If you’re like many of your Burr Ridge neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.

Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.

Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Burr Ridge area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:

  1. Burr Ridge Park Foundation, 15W400 Harvester Drive, "supports the park district by combining monetary donations with time and energy in order to nurture community spirit, protect and preserve open space and promote the health and welfare of residents."
  2. Willowbrook-Burr Ridge Kiwanis, aims to "help out in the respective two communities - shelter and handicapped ramp for local park, Little League scoreboard, Special Park equipment for children, special contributions to Kiwanis Twin Lakes Camp for handicapped children, and fulfilling special requests for needy families."
  3. Beds Plus, 9601 E. Ogden Ave., La Grange, "a leading homeless services provider in Southwest Suburban Cook County."
  4. Hinsdale Pantry, 22 N. Elm St., distributing food to those in need.
  5. Hinsdale Humane Society, 21 Salt Creek Lane, providing "innovative care and adoption services for all animals, including those that are harder to place."
