Burr Ridge Looks Out For Snowbirds

Residents staying in Florida can have more assurance when they're away, an official said.

While they're away, water leaks may go undetected.

Burr Ridge's elected officials have talked about this issue before.

"We, the trustees and I, get the call, 'How come you didn't pick up the fact that my water was running and someone left it on?'" Mayor Gary Grasso said at Monday's Village Board meeting.

Village Administrator Evan Walter said the village is improving its response to such issues. It plans to hire AquaHawk for $600 a month.

As it is, he said, the village focuses first on bigger problems such as 10,000-gallon-a-day leaks. Such issues likely involve meter or box issues and require the village staff's involvement, he said.

The smaller problems, such as 100-gallon-a-day leaks, can be handled by AquaHawk, Walter said.

"That'll help us be a lot quicker on those smaller things that are still important, but just don't rise to the same level of priority as big major leaks, which do happen," he said.
