Burr Ridge Restaurant Spending Spikes

BURR RIDGE, IL – Spending at Burr Ridge restaurants skyrocketed over the last decade, the village's tax numbers indicate.

In 2012, Burr Ridge imposed a 1 percent "place of eating" tax on local restaurants. Under village rules, a quarter of the proceeds are set aside for promoting local restaurants.

In 2015, Burr Ridge collected $230,441 in place of eating taxes.

In the 2024 budget year, which ended last April, the village more than doubled that with $519,090. That represents a 125 percent hike over a decade, far greater than the inflation rate. Darien's food and beverage tax income, by contrast, stayed about the same over the last eight years.

Just two years earlier, the Burr Ridge tax brought in $400,161.

The village is legally barred from revealing each restaurant's totals.
