Hinsdale South Freshman Orientation Happening Tuesday

A quick look at what's happening in and around Burr Ridge today:

• It's Freshman Orientation Day at Hinsdale South, which is when, based on all the teen-related TV sitcoms I've ever watched, the new ninth-graders should probably learn how to wash gum out of their hair, get out of the inside of a locker, and deal with being somehow embarrassed in front of a classmate they have a crush on. (I think that last one actually would be useful.) In all seriousness, orientation runs from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Drop by Barbara's Bookstore in Burr Ridge at 6 p.m. Tuesday for a book signing by JoBe Cerny, author of The Taylor Street File of Red Cin. 
• The Clarendon Hills Park District is hosting its annual Good Old Summertime Indoor Picnic for adults Tuesday. The event begins at 12 p.m.
