District 86 Summer Construction Update
Here's a look at how summer construction at Hinsdale South and Hinsdale Central will affect you.
Construction crews made good time last week at both high schools. The day after classes let out, workers and machinery came in.
Here's a quick look at how the construction at will affect you:
- During construction, there will be no access to the school from the circle drive or main gym entrance.
- Parking will be limited to the stadium (west lot.) Parents need to pull into the stadium lot to drop off their students. No students are allowed to be dropped off on Clarendon Hills Road.
- Summer school students should enter the building through Door #3, and follow the signs
For summer sports camps, parents are asked to drop their children off on Elm Street, because there will be no access to the parking lot on the the north side of the school. Here are the entrances that are open for the different camps:

Here's a look at how the construction at will affect you:
- The school's circular drive will be closed off; No parking for visitors in the student lot. All visitors should park in the faculty lot (Grant Street on the east side of campus
- To gain entry to the school use Door #5, the pool entrance
- To get to the tennis courts, park in the East Grant Street lot, use Door #5, go to the Fieldhouse ramp, exit the building through the northwest door (near rooms 155/157) and follow the path to the south entrance of the tennis courts
- Hinsdale Central's main office, guidance office and athletic director's office will be open throughout the summer
- The Hinsdale Central bookstore will open on July 16 in Room 216 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Further construction at Hinsdale South Until July 16:
- Demolition and grading for north and west drives
- Roof replacement at west balcony
- Install piping for mechanical equipment
- Deliver new chiller and cooling tower
- Patch and extend existing walls
- Layout and framing at main entrance
Further construction at Hinsdale Central until July 16:
- Continued site demolition and grading
- Work on underground utilities
- Rerouting electric at south bus loop
- Demolition of science labs
- Frame walls and mechanical work for main entrance and computer lab
- Demolition of ticket office
What's been done so far at Hinsdale South (June 7 to June 14)
- Canopies were removed
- Mechanical equipment was disconnected
- There was demolition in the main lobby
- New unit vents were brought on site
- Scaffolding was installed for pool equipment
What's been done so far at Hinsdale Central (June 7 to June 14)
- Existing drives and sidewalks were removed
- Mechanical equipment was removed and disconnected
- There was demolition at the main lobby and computer lab
- Bleachers were removed from the gym
- Excavation was started for the central plant
