BURR RIDGE, IL – The man whom federal agents arrested Monday in Burr Ridge is accused of threatening the U.S. Border Patrol's top official, according to the federal government.

Juan Espinoza Martinez, a reputed member of the Latin Kings street gang, was arrested at the Village Center shopping center.

A confidential source told agents that Martinez had placed a "hit" on Gregory Bovino, head of the Border Patrol, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The feds obtained a screenshot of a Snapchat conversation from a user named "Juan" who appeared to place a $2,000 bounty for information "cuando lo agarren," which translates to "when they catch him," and a $10,000 award "if you take him down," the release said.

Martinez was charged federally with soliciting the murder of a senior law enforcement official.

Authorities said Martinez is from Mexico and not legally in the country. They said they did not know when he entered the United States. On Monday, the village initially said Martinez's immigration status was not a factor in the arrest and that ICE was not involved.

"Depraved individuals like Juan Espinoza Martinez – who do not value human life and threaten law enforcement – do not belong in this country. We will not allow criminal gangs to put hits on U.S. government officials and our law enforcement officers," Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in the news release.

On Monday, a Burr Ridge news release said local police and Mayor Gary Grasso were on hand for the arrest. It was unclear what Martinez was doing at Village Center.
