Planned Burr Ridge Restaurant To Be Town's Biggest: Village

Mayor is concerned about oversaturating village with restaurants.

BURR RIDGE, IL — A new Mediterranean restaurant is set to be the largest eatery in Burr Ridge, with the Village Board recently approving the zoning.

According to village documents, the new restaurant, Pella, would be 13,000 square feet and accommodate up to 500 people at a time. It will be at 720 Village Center Drive, in the old space of LOFT and Banana Republic.

The restaurant would include outdoor space, two banquet rooms, a private dining room, a gelato shop, two bar areas and an indoor fountain, according to the village. A glass fence would surround the outdoor dining area, documents state.

Alexander Kostandinov, who is proposing the restaurant, told the Village Board late last month that this would be his first restaurant. A resident of Burr Ridge for four decades, he works in the transportation industry.

According to village meeting minutes, only a handful of residents showed up at a Plan Commission meeting to voice concerns about the proposal. Trustee Tony Schiappa said he was surprised more residents did not express concerns about Pella, given that so many objected to the Are We Live lounge. That project, which the Village Board unanimously approved, was pushed by Capri Ristorante owner Filippo Rovito.

Mayor Gary Grasso expressed concern about oversaturating Burr Ridge with restaurants. In response, interim Village Administrator Evan Walter said some residents were still dining out of town.

The board voted unanimously for Pella's zoning.
