This is not the first time a movie theater has been proposed for Burr Ridge. Back in 1996, hundreds of residents attended public hearings on the idea of building a 30-screen megaplex in Burr Ridge, according to this old Chicago Tribune article.
Residents even formed a group called Citizens Against the Mega-Plex (CAMP,) which raised more than $100,000 in donations to defeat the AMC Movie Mega-Plex proposal. CAMP member Tom O'Toole said that nearly 1,500 residents attended one meeting, which had to be moved to Ashton Place in Willowbrook, because of the turnout.

"We hired consultants, special use and traffic experts, presented crime studies from other similar movie and entertainment complexes and the negative impact on their local communities," Tom O'Toole, a resident who was a member of CAMP, told Patch in an email.
"The entire Burr Ridge community overwhelmingly rejected the concept of a "destination" entertainment Mega-Plex, and because of that, we now have a very lovely, multi-dimensional, multi-use Village Center," said O'Toole in the email.
The Mega-plex idea was voted down by the village's Plan Commission in 1996.
Nothing has been brought before the village board on either the movie theater or bowling alley proposals, but we want to hear what you think. Take our poll, and share your thought in the comments.
