Protecting Your Hair from Sun, Chlorine and Contaminants

Summer brings some activities that could damage hair. Ross Bartolomei, owner of Salon Hype in Burr Ridge, is giving us tips on how to survive summer in style.

Style Tip: Rule number one for protecting your hair: ALWAYS wet your hair before going into a pool, lake or ocean. Why? Because hair is like a sponge and it will absorb anything, which is why your filtered, tap water is far better than chlorinated, ocean or even lake water. There are a couple of really great products on the market that are my favorites. Aqua-Seal, from Kerastase, creates a waterproof barrier and can be shampooed out easily, protecting your hair. Micro-Voile, an invisible light spray, gives a photo defense filter so hair color, natural or treated, is less likely to fade, and hair is protected from the harsh sun.
