Volunteer Bowling Coach Receives Recognition

A Burr Ridge resident was recognized at Monday night's D180 meeting for his role in the district's intramural bowling program.

The school board Monday night recognized a Burr Ridge resident for his work as a volunteer bowling coach. Principal Julie Bartell presented Rick Wagner with a plaque and card signed by students thanking him for donating his time and energy to the bowling intramural program.

“I was glad to do it," said Wagner, who said he was pleased with how many students were interested in participating. "They had—I think—63 kids who wanted to be in the program. "

Although the organizers had to limit the number participating to 20, Bartell said she is hoping to continue the program next year.

Board President Paul Dupont expressed the board's appreciation for Wagner's work in helping students gain experience in a new sport.

"The more things they can be exposed to, the better they can be prepared for high school,” said Dupont.

Plans are in the works for Wagner to play a similar role as a volunteer wrestling coach for the district.
