5 Nonprofits To Get Behind In Channahon-Minooka Area

CHANNAHON-MINOOKA — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the Channahon and Minooka area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.
Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the Channahon and Minooka area:
1. Chanooka Wish:25900 Mcevilly Road, Minooka, 815-521-2850. According to the Chanooka Wish website:"We are working with our community to bring resources to our families. We have put together ideas to assist with REMOTE online school learning. Businesses and community members can assist in several ways:

1. Run a collection at the work place
2. Donate time at CW location to pass out items
3. Donate monetarily so CW can continue to provide to families in need

2. Will County Humane Society, at 24109 West Seil Road in Shorewood. Just off of Route 59, before the ramp onto I-55 South.
"As Will County’s original no-kill shelter we’ve been serving the area for over 40 years with a single purpose, provide a safe haven for homeless pets and help them find their forever home. Every day of the year we care for up to 25 homeless dogs and 50 cats looking for their forever homes. We provide for their general health care, shelter and well-being through our network of volunteers and resources," its website proclaims.
3. Adopt A Bed, Channahon Park District."Adopt-A-Flower-Bed is a volunteer activity where area volunteer groups adopt a flower bed in a Channahon Park District park. The adoptive group is responsible for planting and maintaining the bed during the spring, summer, and fall. The Park District provides all planting materials and tools. Volunteer groups need to provide energy, time and enthusiasm. This is an ideal service project for all ages, children through seniors," its website explained.
4. Three Rivers Garden Club Channahon: Three Rivers Gardening Angels are a Garden club that meets first Tuesday of the month at Channahon United Methodist Church on Route 6. Information can be found on the group's Facebook page.
5. Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club:
According to the club's website, "Our goals are to benefit the community through our many service projects and to join forces with Rotarians worldwide to make a difference around the world ... Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club serves the community by providing the following:
- Scholarships to Local High School Seniors
- Student of the Month Awards for local high school students
- Backpack Food Program for grade school students in need
- Christmas gifts for families in need
- “Special Needs Day” at the Three Rivers Festival
- "Adopt a Spot" roadside clean up and I&M Canal Clean Up
- Each year, we hold an "Oktoberfest Celebration" as our fundraising event.
