Channahon Resident Raises Community Awareness About Animal Rescue
As the adoption counselor at the Will County Humane Society, Loui Pejkovich has turned his love of animals into a dream job.

Loui Pejkovich, a lifelong Channahon resident, has always been passionate about animals and their well-being. He turned this passion into a career with his first job at a humane society in Mokena. Then, in 2021, an opportunity opened up closer to home at Will County Humane Society, the oldest no-kill shelter in the county.
Since then, Pejkovich has been working his self-described “dream job” as the shelter’s adoption counselor. Through his work, he’s been able to connect with other local animal lovers and organizations to support Will County Humane Society’s mission: “provide a safe haven for homeless pets and help them find their forever home.”
We spoke with Pejkovich about his work with the Humane Society, his insights for others who want to help local animals in need and why he loves being a part of the Channahon and broader Will County communities.

Patch: What kinds of opportunities to engage with the local community have stemmed from your involvement with Will County Humane Society, and what kind of impact do those engagements have?
Pejkovich: I have gone to multiple local schools to talk to kids about what we do in animal rescue and about pet care and safety.
