Channahon Woman Battered Cop, Resisted Arrest: State's Attorney
Julie Ziga is charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest after she reportedly hit an officer after a domestic dispute at her home.

CHANNAHON, IL — A 42-year-old Channahon woman faces criminal charges after officials she battered a police officer and resisted arrest following a domestic incident at her home, according to police officials and the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Julie M. Ziga has been charged with aggravated battery and resisting arrest by the state’s attorney’s office after charges were filed earlier this month. The charges stem from an incident at her home on Nov. 26, when police said they were called in connection to a domestic disturbance, a Channahon Police spokesman told Patch on Monday.
Police were called to the residence at 12:40 a.m. on Nov. 26, when police said that officers observed Ziga leaving her home and following two people who were leaving the residence after speaking with police. Ziga was instructed by officers to stop following the two people and return to her home, the spokesman said.

However, Ziga continued to follow the two people while cursing at them, police said. Two officers attempted to keep Ziga from continuing to follow the two people when she began to swing her arms, striking one of the officers in the chest. Ziga then struggled with officers while she was being handcuffed and taken into custody, the state’s attorney’s office said.
The spokesman said that the two other people at the scene were identified by police, who were able to determine the relationship between Ziga and the two people. However, since they were not charged, police are not identifying them or the nature of their relationship due to the personal nature of their incident, the spokesman said.
