MINOOKA, IL — A patient was being transported before a Minooka ambulance was involved in a crash with a car at Ridge and Wildy roads around 3 p.m. Friday, sending a total of five people to area hospitals.

Just before 3:30 p.m., Minooka police were warning drivers to find an alternate route after the crash.

Minooka Deputy Fire Chief Brad Sprague told Patch that four people were in the ambulance at the time of the crash: the patient, a family member and two paramedics. All four occupants of the ambulance, as well as the driver of the car, were taken to either Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet or Morris hospital, said Sprague, who did not believe any had life-threatening injuries.

Sprague said the ambulance may have been attempting to cross Wildy Road when it was struck by the car. The ambulance could be seen on its side at the scene of the crash.

"Some type of collision between our ambulance and the separate vehicle," Sprague told Joliet Patch's editor at the scene.

"That's all I know. I don't know the cause of the crash yet. The police are handling the witness statements. I have not even talked to our people yet to determine how the crash occurred," Sprague noted. "I just know there was an intersection collision between our ambulance and the passenger car resulting in heavy damage of the passenger car and our ambulance to roll over."

Patch asked Minooka's deputy fire chief if the injuries to the five people were significant or life-threatening to anyone in the Ridge Road collision.

"I don't think significant at this time," he responded. "Kendall County's handling the crash. Three to St. Joe's and two to Morris Hospital. That's it for right now. It's still under investigation. I don't know everything and we're going to put a press release in a little bit with just the preliminary and obviously we'll probably follow up later on the incident."

Ridge Road was closed from Fair Lane Drive to North Bell Road due to the crash. As of just before 4:30 p.m., traffic was being allowed to travel south on Ridge Road.
